**Job Description**
This position supports research activities in physiology and pomology of tree crops (apple and pear) in Washington. The role involves conducting research, preparing project reports and presentations for conferences, writing manuscripts for journals, and performing professional-level scientific research. Key tasks include planning and executing field and laboratory experiments, developing new procedures, and collecting, processing, and analyzing field and laboratory data.

Sufficient speech, visual, color discrimination, and hearing abilities.
• Working Conditions: Comfortable working in adverse outdoor conditions (rain, snow, extreme heat or cold) independently or as part of a team. Ability to work alone and with others in loud or distracting environments. Capacity to handle administrative needs of projects such as purchasing and reconciliation of invoices and administrative deadlines.

• Plant Science
• Related field

• 3 years in horticulture (within 5 years of hire)

• Demonstrated effective interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills.
• Technical skills in the laboratory, including microscopy and spectrophotometry.
• Demonstrated ability to interact with large groups and individuals at all work levels.
• Record showing commitment to previous research groups.
• Flexibility in response to issues and opposing points of view.
• Demonstrated sensitivity to and desire to promote diversity.
• Must have, or be able to obtain by time of hire, a valid driver’s license and meet requirements in accordance with SPPM 7.10 and departmental driving standards.
• Preferred: Experience with field and laboratory instruments and equipment.

Salary

Details
Full-time Duration: 12 Month Remote Work: No Location Requirement: Off-site travel required for orchards, meetings, and conferences, requiring driving WSU cars. Work performed in lab, field, greenhouse, storage cold room, and office settings. Must be comfortable working on ladders, lifting/carrying over 55 pounds (25kg). Requires endurance for hot/cold environments and long days in the field, and navigating uneven surfaces. Willingness to work in cold storage rooms.
