**Job Description**
This 3-year postdoctoral fellowship focuses on experimental work in a water channel facility to study the transfer of microscopic particles, specifically microplastics, from the water surface to the atmosphere via droplets produced by wave breaking. The project aims to explain the surprisingly high levels of microplastics found in the atmosphere, even far from land. It involves combining tailored waves, turbulence, and mean flow simultaneously, utilizing a suite of laboratory measurement techniques such as particle-image velocimetry, optical and infrared techniques, profilometry, and high-speed stereo imaging. The successful candidate will be responsible for an extensive laboratory campaign and will work in a highly active, multinational research team, closely aligned with the ongoing ERC project WaTurSheD.
**Skills & Abilities**
• Scientific laboratory experience, preferably in fluid mechanics, turbulent flows, and experimental methods
• Excellent oral and written presentation skills in English, with documented prowess in scientific writing
• Strong international publication record in highly reputable journals, emphasizing quality over quantity
• Extensive experimental research experience in a relevant branch of the physical sciences
• Experience with experimental fluid mechanics, particularly turbulent flows, Particle-Image Velocimetry (PIV), stereo or high-speed imaging, and/or free-surface flows (including waves)
• Experience with laser-based and/or optical flow measurement
• Experience with building and/or developing laboratory set-ups
• Background in curiosity-driven fundamental research
• Experience and skills in supervision and group management

• Preferred: Extensive experimental research experience publishable in high quality international journals.
