**Job Description**
This Postdoctoral Research Associate position at Oak Ridge National Laboratory focuses on advancing the understanding of quantum materials through experimental studies of bulk single crystals. The role involves using crystal growth and physical property measurements to develop, understand, and control new and emerging materials. This position offers an opportunity for excellent productivity and scientific development by leveraging the group’s extensive suite of crystal growth and characterization tools, along with broad collaboration and local scientific and technical expertise.
**Skills & Abilities**
• Background in experimental materials physics research
• Experience with materials synthesis
• Experience with laboratory-based characterization of physical properties (magnetic, transport, crystallographic, thermal, optical)
• Experience with bulk single crystal growth of inorganic materials
• Experience applying complementary characterization techniques to understand the nature and origins of correlated and/or topological phenomena
• Experience with the characterization and analysis of electrical and thermal transport properties
• Experience with characterization and analysis of thermodynamic properties associated with magnetism or superconductivity
• Experience operating and maintaining Quantum Design instruments
• Proficiency with x-ray diffraction measurements and data analysis
• Familiarity with the health and safety hazards associated with an experimental condensed matter laboratory
• Publication record demonstrating an ability to effectively and efficiently report scientific results
• Excellent written and oral communication skills
• Motivated self-starter with the ability to work independently
• Ability to participate creatively in collaborative teams across the laboratory
• Ability to function well in a fast-paced research environment
• Ability to set priorities to accomplish multiple tasks within deadlines
• Ability to adapt to ever changing needs
