This PhD scholarship project, funded by an Australian Research Council Industry Fellowship grant, aims to develop new capabilities for detecting and measuring volatile agents directly in environmental smoke that cause smoke taint in winegrapes. The research seeks to mitigate significant economic losses for the international winemaking industry due to smoke damage, enabling growers to make more cost-effective vineyard management decisions, particularly in light of increasing climate change impacts. The program focuses on research collaboration, translation, and commercialization to address industry-identified challenges and create benefits for Australia.

Required Degree(s) in:

**Experience**
Other:
• Meet requirements for Ph.D. admission at the University of Adelaide.
• Must not have previously completed a Ph.D.
• Australian citizen.
• First Class Honours or Masters degree (advantageous).
• Demonstrated interest and experience in analytical chemistry, particularly GC-MS analysis of trace analytes and field sampling techniques.
• Demonstrated interest or experience in airborne volatiles in environmental smoke or air.
• Relevant experience in environmental chemistry and wine is desirable but not essential.
