**Job Description**
The Post-Doctoral Scholar will join the Department of Political Science and the Mershon Center for International Security Studies at The Ohio State University. Under the supervision of Professor Amanda Lea Robinson, the scholar will contribute to a research program on Traditional Governance in Africa, funded by the Mershon Center. This project evaluates the relationship between the history, institutional structures, and political practices of traditional African institutions (e.g., chieftaincies) and the quality of governance they provide, utilizing both original and existing qualitative and quantitative data. The scholar will dedicate 50% of their time to collaborative project aspects and the remaining time to developing an independent research agenda, publications, and professional profile, with no teaching or service obligations.

• Strong methodological training (qualitative, quantitative, or both)
• Demonstrated research expertise in the study of traditional governance (Desired)
• Experience living, working, or conducting research in Africa or another developing region (Desired)
• Interest in conducting field-based research (Desired)

Required Degree(s) in:
• Political Science
• Closely related field

• Ph.D. completed by June 30, 2026
