**Job Description**
The Ohio State University’s Department of Political Science and Mershon Center for International Security Studies are seeking a Post-Doctoral Scholar for a two-year appointment beginning August 15, 2026. This position, supervised by Professor Amanda Lea Robinson, focuses on Traditional Governance in Africa, evaluating the relationship between historical, institutional, and political practices of traditional institutions (e.g., chieftaincies) and their governance quality, using both original and existing qualitative and quantitative data. The scholar will dedicate 50% of their time to collaborative project research and 50% to developing an independent research agenda, publications, and professional profile, with no teaching or service obligations. Active participation in both the Mershon Center and Department of Political Science is expected.
**Skills & Abilities**
• Strong methodological training (qualitative, quantitative, or both).
• Demonstrated research expertise in the study of traditional governance (Desired).
• Experience living, working, or conducting research in Africa or another developing region (Desired).
• Interest in conducting field-based research (Desired).
