**Job Description**
This fully funded PhD project offers a unique opportunity to research the sociotechnical imaginaries of digital journalism between 1995 and 2025 within Northern Europe. The project investigates how various actors, including journalists and technologists, have shaped debates around the introduction, negotiation, and normalization of new technologies, such as the web and AI, in journalism. It critically examines the competing norms and values concerning journalism and technology, scrutinizing the blurred boundaries and tensions between journalism as a public service institution and the entrepreneurial logic of big tech corporations. Methodologically, it combines computational and qualitative analyses of metajournalistic discourses with interviews to reconstruct first-person experiences and social networks, providing a critical history of journalism’s recent past.
