**Job Description**
The Research Assistant I will support research within the Department of Immunology and Infectious Diseases and the Catterccia Laboratory, focusing on parasite-vector interactions. The role involves studying mosquito reproduction and its connection to malaria parasite transmission, as well as contributing to the development and testing of novel chemical interventions for parasite control in mosquitoes to ultimately develop innovative malaria control strategies.

**Skills & Abilities**
• Experience with mosquito breeding (desired)
• General molecular biology techniques
• Parasite in vitro culturing
• Microscopy
• Experience working with biosafety level 2+ pathogens (preferred)
• Ability to interact and coordinate work with diverse staff and researchers (graduate students, postdoctoral fellows, senior scientists)
• Strong attention to detail
• Strong organizational and communication skills
• Experience working in a diverse group setting, both collaboratively and independently
• Capacity to quickly adapt to a fast-paced research environment/team
• Scheduling flexibility for occasional extended shift hours on evenings, weekends, and holidays
• Ability to work in a facility with a constant temperature of 80°F and relative humidity of 70-80%
• Handling of human-derived samples (blood) and malaria parasites

**Qualifications**
Required Degree(s) in:
• Biology
• Molecular Biology
• Similar field (Bachelor’s degree strongly preferred, Master’s degree a plus)

**Experience**
Experience Required:
• 1+ years (relevant experience, a combination of education and experience may be considered)
Other:
• Experience handling insects/mosquitoes
• Experience in a life sciences molecular biology wet lab environment (preferred)
• Experience with life sciences/molecular biology wet lab techniques
• Experience in routine molecular biology methodologies
• Experience with basic laboratory techniques including creating standard solutions, dilutions, use of micropipettes, and other common laboratory apparatuses
