Associate Professor – Regular Series-35207FacultyDescriptionUniversity of Colorado Anschutz Medical CampusDepartment: Department of Biomedical InformaticsJob Title:  Associate Professor – Regular SeriesPosition #00828211:– Requisition #:35207Job Summary:The Department of Biomedical Informatics seeks a new faculty member who will strengthen our presence in phenotyping, standards development, and work with major national NIH-funded initiatives. In this search, we seek to hire a researcher with strong experience in developing standards, especially in the area of AI. We are particularly interested in faculty who have expertise leading efforts in this space for national efforts, including the coordination and collaboration elements of these exercises. The Department’s focus includes developing novel models, systems, and tools to improve patient outcomes, effectively translating them into clinical workflows on health information technology platforms, and rigorously evaluating them. In addition to collaborating with informaticists, computer scientists, physicists, systems biologists, data scientists, and physicians in the Department, we anticipate that the faculty member will develop new collaborations with other departments, health system personnel, and multidisciplinary research groups on the Anschutz Medical Campus.Supervision ReceivedThe position will report directly to the Department of Biomedical Informatics Chair.Supervision ExercisedThe position will supervise project(s) technical staff (Master’s-level data scientists, postdoctoral fellows, graduate students, etc.) and will assist in coordination of professional staff activities and efforts.Professional FieldBiomedical Informatics or an appropriate related field.Key Responsibilities:Develop and lead an independent research program.Develop novel methods or strategies to apply computation and technology to medicine.Individually and in collaboration with multidisciplinary teams, obtain external funding and publish impactful manuscripts.Mentor pre- and post-doctoral non-clinical and clinical trainees.Work Location:Remote Possible– this role is eligible for remote work, though the work conducted as part of the overall group should include significant on-site presence and the individual should be able to travel to CU Anschutz as needed for meetings.Why Join Us:The Department of Biomedical Informatics is the academic home for over 30 tenure-track faculty who use genome-scale biology, multiscale modeling, mathematical physiology, simulation, machine learning, artificial intelligence, knowledge engineering, human-computer interaction, data integration, and mathematical and predictive analytics to marry disparate but related aspects of the campus’s clinical and research portfolios. The Department of Biomedical Informatics is co-located on the Anschutz Medical Campus with the UCHealth University of Colorado Hospital, Children’s Hospital Colorado, and the Rocky Mountain Regional VA Medical Center. DBMI enjoys collaborations with numerous centers and units on campus. For example, the CU Anschutz Center for Combat Medicine and Battlefield (COMBAT) Research has been created to solve the U.S. military’s toughest medical challenges by leading high-impact research, education, and innovation, turning military medical research gains into better health care for all. The Anschutz Campus is home to Colorado’s only NIH-supported Comprehensive Cancer Center (the University of Colorado Cancer Center) and Clinical and Translational Science Award hub (the Colorado Clinical and Translational Sciences Institute). The Colorado Center for Personalized Medicine houses the region’s largest biobank, which is one of the nation’s largest academic biobanks. Research into women’s health and sex differences is a key theme in the department that enjoys strong connections with the Ludeman Family Center for Women’s Health Research.
