**Job Description**
The University of Gothenburg’s Department of Political Science, recognized among the best in Sweden and Europe, is inviting applications for a Postdoctoral Fellow position within the ambitious “Fem-LEAD” research project. Funded by an ERC Starting Grant and led by Associate Professor Aksel Sundström, this project investigates the intricate connections between natural disasters, specifically climate shocks, and women’s political standing. It explores how these events influence public opinion, citizens’ demand for female politicians, the supply of female candidates, and the presence of elected women, utilizing a blend of public opinion data, observational surveys, in-depth interviews, and survey experiments.
**Skills & Abilities**
• Previous experience of research in connection with gender and politics, political representation, public opinion, or African politics
• Keen interest in conducting collaborative research in the Fem-LEAD project
• Ambition and ability to produce high-quality and high-impact research, both independently and in a team
• Ability to work constructively and effectively as part of an international research team
• Excellent skills in quantitative methods (using Stata or R)
• Skills in designing survey experiments
• Skills in working with geospatial data
• Experience with comparative survey data
• Experience of working with data related to climate or disasters
• Strong interest in developing creative research designs
• Ambition and willingness to acquire new methodological skills
• Excellent command of spoken and written English
• Eye for detail and good organizational skills
• Problem-solving ability
• Very high communication and collaboration skills
**Qualifications**
Required Degree(s) in:
• Political Science
• Closely related subject (e.g., Economics)
**Experience**
Experience Required:
• 4 – 10 years (PhD)
Other:
• Completed doctoral degree no more than three years before the end of the application period (exceptions considered for special reasons)
