Department​Press Distribution WarehouseAbout the Department​The University of Chicago Press Distribution Center (CDC) is a state-of-the-art distribution and fulfillment operation, providing a full range of services to the University of Chicago Press and scholarly publishers worldwide. Located in the Historic Pullman District near 110th Langley, the CDC is conveniently located near the Metra and the Bishop Ford Freeway. The facility is two hundred seventy-three thousand square feet housing nearly twelve million books in inventory, and more than nineteen thousand units shipped daily. On-the-job training provided.Job Information​Job Summary:Responsible for various accounts receivable duties including distribution of monthly statements, processing and applying payments including checks, credit cards, and non-cash payments. Responsible for mail room and delivery functions for the Chicago Distribution Center including daily mail pickup, delivery, sorting and distribution. Operate folder-inserter mail machine and postage meter and process outbound correspondence. Operate and maintain Press van for pickups and deliveries across the University campus and various post office locations.Responsibilities:Operate and maintain Press van for pickups and deliveries, loading van, picking up mail from post office, making deliveries to and from the Langley Press warehouse and various campus locations.Preforming accounts receivable duties including applying check and credit card payments, non-cash payments, distributing monthly email statements, and filing and shredding.Opening, identifying, sorting and distributing all mail received.Running the folding and inserter mail and postage machine and handle outbound correspondence for the press.Competencies:Interact with clarity, tact and courtesy with patrons, patients, staff, faculty, students and others required.Communicate effectively in English, both oral and writing required.Carry sensitive materials including personnel files, and bank deposits with care and discretion required.Identify priorities and respond to management as needed required.Recognize and resolve or refer problems and conflicts required.Demonstrated ability to negotiate and manage interpersonal communication effectively required.Read and understand basic documentation such as Help screens and departmental handouts required.Additional Requirements​​Education, Experience, and Certifications:Education:High school diploma or equivalent required.Experience:At least two years of driving experience required.Previous mail room experience preferred.Certifications:Valid driver’s license required.Technical Knowledge or Skills:Use or learn to use a range of position related software applications including standard software packages as well as networked systems, email, the Web and other types of information structures.Demonstrated mechanical aptitude to maintain and troubleshoot mail room equipment required.Working Conditions and Physical Requirements:Requires some lifting of up to 50 pounds.Pay Range:$18.47 – $21.56Required Documents:ResumeCover LetterWhen applying, the document(s)MUSTbe uploaded via theMy Experiencepage, in the section titledApplication Documentsof the application.Benefit Eligibility​YesRequires Compliance with University Covid-19 Vaccination RequirementNoPay Frequency​HourlyPay RangePlease refer to Additional Requirements to see the pay rangesScheduled Weekly Hours​40Union​024- Local 743, I.B.T.
