This PhD project focuses on developing a 3D digital computational model of high-pressure mechanical seals critical for hydrogen and carbon capture technologies. The research involves applying Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) to simulate gas film flow and coupling it with structural models to study fluid-structure interaction (FSI) and dynamic responses. The role requires collaboration with the Leonardo Centre for Tribology and industrial engagement with John Crane Ltd, contributing to clean energy solutions and providing highly sought-after skills in digital modelling and CFD.
