**Job Description**
This postdoctoral position in the Rye Breeding Project at the University of Kentucky focuses on developing commercially viable, short statured, high yielding, open pollinated rye varieties for baking, brewing, and distillation. The successful candidate will act as a liaison between farmers, end-users, and researchers, promoting sustainable production practices and contributing to soil health. Responsibilities include designing experiments, collecting and analyzing data, and contributing to the development of a nascent rye genomic selection platform. The role also involves germplasm development, screening for agronomic fitness and end-use quality, and participation in manuscript preparation, presentations, and grant writing, while mentoring students.
**Skills & Abilities**
• Demonstrated proficiency in written and oral communication in English
• Expertise in molecular or genomic plant breeding methods (Preferred)
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills (Preferred)
• Evidence of performing high-quality research individually and as part of a team (Preferred)
**Qualifications**
Required Degree(s) in:
• Plant Breeding & Genetics
• Related field
**Experience**
Experience Required:
• Demonstrated experience in field-based plant breeding projects
Other:
• Valid US Driver’s License, and eligible to drive University of Kentucky vehicles
• Experience working with farmers in collaborative research projects (Preferred)
