**Job Description**
A research opportunity is available with the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), Agricultural Research Service (ARS). The selected candidate will join a highly collaborative, multi-disciplinary team to contribute to the GrainGenes digital platform. This role involves utilizing computational biology and machine learning expertise to develop tools for data query, access, display, and sharing, as well as performing analyses, presenting results, and publishing manuscripts. The participant will learn about recent advances in machine learning and data management in agricultural research, collaborate with USDA ARS scientists, and develop expertise in accessing and managing agricultural data.
**Skills & Abilities**
• Experience in computer science, bioinformatics, or computational biology
• Experience in machine learning and artificial intelligence
• Experience with genetics and genomic data
• Experience with large, diverse datasets and data mining approaches
• Proficiency in Linux and computational programming
• Strong computational and analytical skills
• Strong oral and written communication skills
**Qualifications**
Required Degree(s) in:
• Computer, Information, and Data Sciences
• Engineering
• Life Health and Medical Sciences
• Mathematics and Statistics
• Physics

Other:
• Doctoral degree received within the last 60 months or anticipated to be received by 2026-05-31
• U.S. Citizen Only
• Veterans Preference: doctoral degree received within the last 120 months
