**Job Description**
This Ph.D. project focuses on exploring the mechanics of soft matter, such as polymers and hydrogels, through a unique blend of theory, hands-on experiments, and machine learning. The goal is to design and characterize self-sensing soft materials capable of revealing their internal stresses through imaging, overcoming challenges posed by nonlinearities, viscous effects, and multiphysics coupling. The work involves combining continuum mechanics, machine learning, experimental imaging, and mechanical testing in an interdisciplinary setting.

**Skills & Abilities**
• Experience in continuum solid mechanics.
• Experience with machine learning for scientific applications.
• Strong programming skills (e.g., Python, PyTorch, TensorFlow).
• Enthusiasm for hands-on experimental work (e.g., mechatronics).
• Familiarity with polymers or other soft materials.
• Drive to tackle interdisciplinary challenges and communicate across fields.
• Strong teamwork and communication skills.
• English proficiency to communicate and interact, participate in English-taught Doctoral Education courses, and write scientific articles and a final thesis.
