**Job Description**
This Ph.D. project focuses on developing new chemistry for visualizing complex mechanical phenomena in soft matter, such as polymers and hydrogels. The role involves combining synthetic, characterization, and imaging tools to understand how chemistry-based imaging connects to continuum mechanics, ultimately to characterize and improve high-performance soft materials. The work aims to develop robust imaging and sensing techniques that can report internal stresses directly.
**Skills & Abilities**
• Experience in synthetic organic/materials chemistry.
• Experience with optics and imaging (highly appreciated).
• Basic programming skills (e.g. Python, PyTorch, TensorFlow).
• Enthusiasm for hands-on experimental work (e.g., synthesis and device fabrication).
• Drive to tackle interdisciplinary challenges and communicate across fields.
• Strong teamwork and communication skills.
**Qualifications**
Required Degree(s) in:
• Chemistry
• Chemical Engineering
• Materials Science
• Physics
• Related field
