**Job Description**
This PhD project aims to enhance soil functions for improved soil health and water quality by actively managing the soil microbiome and soil physico-chemical properties. This will be achieved through the application and ideation of new renewable engineered amendments. The research focuses on designing tailor-made soil amendments, preferably derived from renewable and circular agricultural by-products, to steer and optimize soil microbiomes and their functions. The project involves experimentation at various scales, including incubations, greenhouse studies, and field trials, to determine how these amendments influence microbial composition, activity, and the delivery of specific soil functions such as nutrient cycling, carbon storage, water regulation, and pathogen suppression. The successful candidate will collaborate closely with other researchers, farmers, and related organizations.
**Skills & Abilities**
• Experience with analyses of soils or microbiomes
• Independent and motivated with an affinity for multidisciplinary and impact-driven research
