The project aims to innovate beyond current membrane and thermal technologies by reducing environmental impact through avoiding chemical additions and harmful brine discharge, generating valuable products, or selectively removing undesirable compounds from brines. Key opportunities include increasing the added value of desalted water for secondary uses. The central challenge involves designing and modifying membranes to achieve desired ion selectivity, enabling sustainable brine management and tailored concentrate production, ultimately bridging laboratory innovations to scalable electrodialysis systems.
