**Job Description**
This Research Assistant position at the University of Amsterdam’s Institute of Physics supports cutting-edge research with ultracold atoms and trapped ions, specifically within the Quantum Gases & Quantum Information (QG&QI), Quantum Materials (QMat), and Soft Matter (SM) research clusters. The role involves providing hands-on lab support to MSc students, Ph.D., and postdoctoral researchers, contributing to the creation of complex experimental setups, maintaining laboratory infrastructure, and sharing expertise with junior group members. The successful candidate will be a key contributor to maintaining research quality and providing high-level continuity and expertise within the team.
**Skills & Abilities**
• Excellent command of English.
• Passion for physics, technology, and science.
• Ability to quickly process and apply new knowledge and approaches in practice.
• Pro-active personality and a troubleshooting mentality.
• Demonstrable experience of laser systems and optics.
• Experience gained in a research setting in atomic, molecular, and optical physics.
• Knowledge and experience of automation and laboratory management (advantageous).
• Ability to thrive in scientific group meetings and seminars.
• Effective sparring partner capabilities.
**Qualifications**
Required Degree(s) in:
• Ph.D. degree or higher in a relevant field (e.g., Physics, Optics, Quantum Mechanics)
