**Job Description**
This Research Fellow position at the University of Southampton is part of the “Tone Down” project, funded by National Grid Electricity Transmission (NGET). The project aims to innovate noise mitigation for high-voltage power transformers by developing sustainable and durable acoustic metamaterials-based treatments that can be retrofitted to existing enclosures, addressing the significant challenges posed by low-frequency tonal components of transformer noise. The role involves designing, testing, and modelling novel metamaterials, conducting experimental field/laboratory testing of prototypes, assessing human perception and environmental impact, and disseminating research findings.

Required Degree(s) in:
• Acoustics
• Mechanical Engineering
• Physics
• Related field

**Experience**
Other:
• Substantial and authoritative practical knowledge and experience in acoustics and/or vibration, supported by detailed understanding
• Basic understanding and knowledge of numerical modelling using the Finite Element Method/Boundary Element Method
