Postdoctoral Associate

**Job Description**
The Water Research Center at New York University Abu Dhabi is seeking a Postdoctoral Associate to work on membrane surface patterning for water treatment applications, under the supervision of Dr Daniel Johnson. This role involves leading an innovative project focused on developing hybrid processes for the recovery of minerals from desalination reject brine. The successful candidate will develop and test innovative membrane materials, adsorption processes, ion exchange, and solvent extraction at both lab and pilot scales. The ultimate goal is to create low-cost and environmentally sustainable hybrid systems to reduce the environmental impacts of desalination waste streams while recovering economically important minerals.

**Skills & Abilities**
• Demonstrated knowledge and experience of membrane fabrication and characterization.
• Experience in desalination and other water treatment processes, including working at both the bench and pilot scale.
• Experience in assessment of environmental impacts of processes, such as life cycle analysis (desirable).
• Strong attention to detail.
• Excellent organizational skills.
• Exceptional verbal and written communication abilities.
• Capability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team.
• Excellent experimental and analytical skills relevant to the project (in particular membrane fabrication, materials characterization, aqueous chemistry, and desalination processes).
• Demonstrated history of peer-reviewed publications in a related area.
• Prior expertise in materials science and environmental chemistry (preferred).
