**Job Description**
This Ph.D. project focuses on monitoring the activity of single mechanosensitive membrane channels inserted into artificial cell membranes, utilizing biophysical tools combined with cell-free protein synthesis. A microfluidics system with freestanding lipid bilayers will facilitate electrical monitoring of ion channels under mechanical load. The knowledge generated will contribute to developing synthetic cells responsive to their environment, aiming to advance mechanosensing through optimized ion channel incorporation and activity in lipid bilayers. The project is interdisciplinary, spanning biophysics, engineering, and biochemistry, and is part of the EVOLF consortium.
