**Job Description**
This Ph.D. project focuses on monitoring the activity of single mechanosensitive membrane channels inserted into artificial cell membranes, utilizing biophysical tools combined with cell-free protein synthesis. A microfluidics system with freestanding lipid bilayers will be employed for electrical monitoring of ion channels under direct mechanical load. The research aims to advance mechanosensing in synthetic cells by optimizing ion channel incorporation and activity in lipid bilayers, contributing to the development of environment-responsive synthetic cells. The project integrates biophysics, engineering, and biochemistry, and the Ph.D. student will be part of the interdisciplinary EVOLF consortium.
