**Job Description**
The Business Researcher I contributes to the planning and design of business research and creative projects. This role involves performing supporting research and creative activities such as data analysis, monitoring outcomes, performing lab maintenance, and/or conducting experiments and creating creative projects. The researcher may assist in both short- and long-term planning, project goals, research and creative proposals, and the dissemination of project findings. The Center for Business and Economic Research (CBER) focuses on research and service to the State and people of Alabama and the nation, committed to promoting development throughout Alabama. CBER’s research spans economic and fiscal policy, business, environmental, and economic and workforce development studies, and also involves collecting, maintaining, analyzing, and releasing business and socioeconomic data. The role uses knowledge of complex economic systems to redevelop, maintain, and enhance Alabama Economy Online, a proprietary CBER web application. It involves developing and maintaining economic models and databanks, conceptualizing changes in state economic systems and structures, and incorporating these into economic models for forecasts and analysis. The researcher interacts with external contacts to communicate economic and socioeconomic insight and impacts contributing to Alabama’s economic development, works in a team environment, and may undertake project-specific supervisory responsibilities. The Alabama Economy Online is a significant undertaking providing economic impact calculators and area profiles for the state and its counties.
**Skills & Abilities**
• Good organizational and communication, both verbal and written, skills.
• Analytical and quantitative skills.
• Familiarity with economic systems and structures at state, regional, and local levels.
• Knowledge of economic forecasting and modeling software.
• Knowledge of web design, word processing, spreadsheet, and graphics packages.
**Qualifications**
Required Degree(s) in:
• Economics
• Statistics
• Business-related field
**Experience**
Experience Required:
• Two (2) years of economic analysis and/or forecasting experience (BSc)
• Some of economic analysis and/or forecasting experience (MSc)
