Early Career Researcher

**Job Description**
Merton College is seeking three Early Career Researchers for three-year fixed-term positions, commencing October 2026. These roles are designed to provide opportunities for successful applicants to establish a robust research profile and prepare for academic careers. Researchers are expected to undertake high-quality original research in English, Music, or Law, publicize their outcomes, engage in the academic life of the College, and may undertake a limited amount of teaching.

• Research expertise in the chosen field commensurate with career
• Coherent plan for research expected to make a valuable contribution to the candidate’s field
• Evidence of active participation in the successful dissemination of research findings

**Qualifications**
Required Degree(s) in:
• English
• Music
• Law
Hold a recently completed doctorate or be close to completion of a doctorate, with thesis submitted no later than 3 months before the start date.
Not have formally submitted their doctoral thesis for viva voce examination before 1 October 2024 (unless career break or exceptional circumstances).

**Experience**
Experience Required:
Demonstrated research expertise by:
• Recently completed (or close to being completed) doctoral thesis
• Published or forthcoming books or articles in refereed journals
• Evidence of such future achievement
