Early Career Researchers

**Job Description**
Merton College proposes to appoint three three-year, fixed-term Early Career Researchers starting 1 October 2026 or as soon as possible thereafter, in the fields of English, Music, and Law. These posts are designed to provide opportunities for successful applicants to establish a research profile and prepare for academic careers. Researchers are expected to undertake a high-quality programme of original research in their chosen subject, publicise outcomes, and engage in the academic life of the College, with the option to undertake a limited amount of teaching.

**Skills & Abilities**
• Research expertise in the chosen field commensurate with career
• Ability to develop a coherent research plan for the appointment’s duration
• Evidence of active participation in the successful dissemination of research findings

**Qualifications**
Required Degree(s) in:
• Doctorate (recently completed or close to completion)

**Experience**
Other:
• Thesis submitted no later than 3 months before the start date of the post.
• Not eligible if doctoral thesis submitted before 2024-10-01, unless a career break or exceptional circumstances apply.
• Research expertise demonstrated by a recently completed (or close to being completed) doctoral thesis, published/forthcoming books or articles in refereed journals, or evidence of such future achievement.
