**Job Description**
The Laboratory Researcher IV performs entry-level experiments using standard basic techniques for an externally funded research program in nutritional biochemistry and molecular biology. Responsibilities include maintaining a clean, safe, and organized laboratory, upholding all health and safety regulations, conducting safety training for new personnel, and accurately recording and managing experimental data. The role also involves managing laboratory supplies and equipment, performing routine cell culture, and maintaining animal care protocols, including managing transgenic mouse colonies and conducting animal handling procedures. The researcher provides technical assistance to lab members for various sample and reagent processing tasks, all completed under supervision.

**Skills & Abilities**
• Basic knowledge of the particular research discipline.
• Training or experience in mouse colony maintenance and breeding.
• General knowledge and application of basic biochemical and molecular biology concepts (e.g., DNA isolation, mouse genotyping).
• Excellent organizational, communication, and computer literacy skills.
• Facile use of Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Google Docs, and Google Drive.
• Facile use of mouse colony management software.
• Knowledge of equipment, tools, and supplies for DNA isolation, RNA purification, cDNA synthesis, Real Time PCR, SDS-PAGE, and immunoblotting.
• Knowledge of temperature-sensitive samples and conditions requiring dry ice, liquid nitrogen, and storage at -80°C.
• Knowledge of high-speed centrifugation.
• Knowledge of working with acids, bases, flammable agents, enzymes, chemiluminescence, fluorescence, tissue fixatives, and stains.
• Rodent handling and experience working with in vivo assays with rodents (Preferred).
• Knowledge of cell culture techniques.
• Ability to maintain a cell culture room and cell lines.
• Prior experience with Rutgers purchasing and marketplace platforms (Preferred).
• Knowledge of or experience with endocrinology and molecular biology techniques in diverse mammalian tissues (Preferred).

**Qualifications**
Required Degree(s) in:
• Related scientific field (Bachelor’s degree)

Experience
Other:
• Bachelor’s degree in a related scientific field or an equivalent combination of education and/or relevant research experience (Minimum)
• 3 years laboratory experience (Preferred)
• At least 2 years experience working with experimental rodents (Preferred)
