Mellon Postdoctoral Fellowship in English Language and Literature

**Job Description**
This two-year Mellon Postdoctoral Fellowship, jointly offered by Cornell’s Department of Literatures in English and the Society for the Humanities, seeks a candidate specializing in African American literature and culture, with additional expertise in gender and sexuality studies or media studies. The fellow will engage in independent research, receive faculty mentorship, teach two courses per year (one lower-level and one upper-level), and actively participate in events and seminars hosted by the Society for the Humanities.

**Skills & Abilities**
• Specialization in African American literature and culture (in any historical period).
• Additional expertise in gender and sexuality studies or media studies (print and/or digital culture).
• Ability to develop and teach courses at both introductory and advanced levels.

**Qualifications**
Required Degree(s) in:
• Ph.D. (in English Language and Literature or related humanities field)

**Experience**
Other:
• Ph.D. degree must be received after August 1, 2022, and no later than June 30, 2026.
• Applicants who do not have the Ph.D. in hand at the time of application must include a letter from the committee chair or department stating that the Ph.D. degree will be conferred before the term of the fellowship begins.
