**Job Description**
This project focuses on investigating the manufacturing techniques of early electrum coinage, particularly those held in the Ashmolean Museum. The research will involve both museum-based work and advanced non-destructive elemental analysis at the ISIS Neutron and Muon Source. The student will gain experience in museum cataloguing, portable XRF analyses, and sophisticated techniques like muonic X-ray emission spectroscopy and neutron imaging to depth profile and analyze the composition and structure of these ancient coins. The initial focus will be on early Greek electrum from Lydia, with freedom for the student to select future research materials based on their numismatic and archaeological interests.

• Aptitude for scientific research and data interpretation.
• Ability to familiarise with museum collections and assist with digitisation.
• Practical skills in portable XRF analyses.
• Capability to apply and interpret advanced elemental analysis techniques (e.g., μXES, neutron-based).
