**Job Description**
This PhD position (DC12) is part of REUNATECH, a Horizon Europe Marie Skłodowska-Curie Doctoral Network focused on educating and training Doctoral Candidates to address the vulnerability of critical infrastructures, high-tech industries, and communities to cascading NaTech (Natural Hazard Triggering Technological) events. The specific research project aims to develop an integrated resilience assessment and management framework with tools tailored for process industries, combining engineering design principles with stakeholder engagement for decision-making under uncertainty. The project will utilize agent-based modelling, quantitative resilience, and risk analysis to evaluate and optimize resilience strategies, with validation through pilot studies.

**Skills & Abilities**
• Solid background in process safety, quantitative risk assessment, and simulation methods.
• Experience in programming and/or safety analysis software.
• Willingness to conduct research in a multi-national project team.
• Fluent in written and spoken English.
• Familiarity with process safety and security concepts, accident modelling approach, and dynamic Bayesian Networks (advantageous).

**Qualifications**
Required Degree(s) in:
• Master Degree or equivalent
• MSc degree in process engineering, system engineering, or related fields

• Not already in possession of a doctoral degree at the date of recruitment.
• At the time of recruitment, the researcher must not have resided or carried out their main activity (work, studies, etc.) in the Netherlands for more than 12 months in the three years immediately prior to the recruitment date (compulsory national service and short stays like holidays are excluded).

Relocation required for secondments to Berlin, Germany and SafePlant, Italy.
