**Job Description**
This project aims to design and evaluate organ allocation mechanisms, with a specific focus on the efficiency and fairness of Eurotransplant’s liver allocation system. It is a collaborative effort with Eurotransplant, partially funded by them, and includes a significant applied component where results from Eurotransplant donor and patient populations will inform Eurotransplant policies. The PhD candidate will be supervised by experts in combinatorial optimization, machine learning, and fairness-awareness in algorithmic decision support.
**Skills & Abilities**
• Strong analytical and algorithmic background.
• Strong background in statistics, machine learning, discrete optimization, or operations research.
• Strong interest in the medical and health policy aspects of the project.
• Interest in both technical and socio-technical aspects of effective and fair organ allocation.
