**Job Description**
This fully funded PhD project is part of DECADOCS, a Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions Doctoral Network, focusing on reinterpreting the concept of decadence through sustainability, transnationalism, and sensoriality. The research involves a diachronic analysis of menus and the symbolic dimensions of social dining from the late 19th century to the present, examining literary texts, manifestos, and performative events. The aim is to trace shifts in the cultural construction of gastronomy and its entanglement with art and ideology, ultimately understanding how gastronomy functions as an artistic and ideological language. The objective is to use 19th-21st century French menus as a benchmark for transnational decadent food and develop a communication strategy for the food and drink industry and the public.

**Skills & Abilities**
• Native (or near-native) knowledge of English or French or German (Italian is a plus).
• Excellent written and oral communication skills.
• Strong digital skills.
• Affinity and interest in interdisciplinary research.
• Ability to work well both collaboratively and independently in an international context.
• Highly motivated, with excellent organisational skills.
• Strong background in late-nineteenth/early-twentieth century history (Literature, Politics, Gastronomy) (plus).
• Demonstrable research interest/experience in at least one of the following: travel, foods, cultural studies (desirable).
• Experience in archival research and working with scholarly databases (desirable).
• Experience in digital humanities methods (desirable).
• Curiosity, problem solving skills, willingness to engage with non-academic audiences (desirable).
• Demonstrable ability to disseminate research findings in scholarly and/or popular forums (desirable).
• Experience in the organisation of public events (desirable).

**Qualifications**
Required Degree(s) in:
• Master’s degree or equivalent in Humanities (such as Romance Studies, Cultural Studies, Food Studies, Modern History 19th-21st, Communications Studies, Intercultural Communication)

• Must not have a doctoral degree at the date of recruitment.
• Should be enrolled in another doctoral program during the project.
• Must comply with mobility rules: generally, must not have resided or carried out main activity (work, studies, etc.) in France for more than 12 months in the 36 months immediately before recruitment date.

Temporary / Full-time Duration: 48 months Location Requirement: Relocation required to Reims, France for the first 24 months, then to Mainz (Germersheim Campus), Germany for the subsequent 24 months.
