PhD Position: Biophysical Studies of Mechanosensitive Membrane Channels

**Job Description**
This PhD project focuses on monitoring the activity of single mechanosensitive membrane channels inserted into artificial cell membranes using biophysical tools combined with cell-free protein synthesis. A microfluidics system with freestanding lipid bilayers will enable electrical monitoring of ion channels under direct mechanical load. The knowledge generated will contribute to making synthetic cells responsive to their environment, with the general goal of advancing (mechano)sensing through optimization of ion channel incorporation and activity in lipid bilayers. The project is interdisciplinary, interfacing biophysics, engineering, and biochemistry, and the PhD student will be part of the EVOLF consortium.
