PhD position focused on understanding and mitigating the environmental and health impacts of depolymerization of plastic waste, and production of new state-of-the-art bioplastics

August 20, 2025

**Job Description**
This fully funded Ph.D. position at the Technical University of Denmark (DTU) focuses on understanding and mitigating the environmental and health impacts of plastic waste depolymerization and the production of new state-of-the-art bioplastics. The research sits at the cutting edge of sustainable materials design, chemical hazard assessment, and microplastic pollution. This opportunity is part of the EU-funded UPCYCLE project, aiming to transform non-recyclable mixed plastic waste into biodegradable and recyclable packaging materials, building on the H2020 UPLIFT project’s success. The role involves experimental work and risk modeling to uncover hotspots in production chains and investigate microplastic release from bioplastic formulations, supporting the plastic/bioplastic sector’s transformation towards safer, more sustainable practices.
