**Job Description**
This Ph.D. project focuses on developing and evaluating bio-based circular packaging materials to enhance food safety, minimize waste, and support circular value chains. The role involves integrating material innovation, production systems, and microbiological safety, with an emphasis on formulation, characterization, and performance testing of packaging systems in food applications. The research aims to develop, characterize, and validate bio-based food packaging materials from agricultural and industrial side streams, addressing critical gaps in the field to provide science-based evidence for national policy and regulatory frameworks.

**Skills & Abilities**
• Strong experimental and problem-solving skills
• A proactive mindset and the ability to work independently and in teams
• Excellent communication skills in English (written and spoken)
• Documented experience with food and bio-based materials chemistry (particularly for packaging) and analytical techniques
• Experience in packaging processing technologies (e.g., extrusion, injection, compression molding)
• Familiarity with relevant methods such as Microscopy (SEM, AFM), Spectroscopy (e.g., FTIR, Raman), and antimicrobial assays, and/or other relevant methods for characterizing packaging materials and foods
• Knowledge of LCA

**Qualifications**
Required Degree(s) in:
• Food Science
• Materials Science and Engineering
• Packaging Technology
• or a related field
Other:
• A two-year Master’s degree (120 ECTS points) or equivalent
