**Job Description**
The research group led by Dr. Reuben Leveson-Gower is seeking a PhD student to work on a biocatalysis project. The project focuses on engineering enzymes to facilitate novel reactions, thereby improving the sustainability of the chemical and pharmaceutical industries. This involves adapting existing enzyme architectures through chemical intuition and enzyme engineering to conduct new catalytic tasks.
**Skills & Abilities**
• Strong grasp of and interest in fundamental concepts in organic chemistry.
• Enthusiasm for expanding capabilities and learning new wet-lab or dry-lab skills.
• Demonstrated ability and passion for learning new skills.
• English proficiency to communicate, interact, participate in courses, and write scientific articles/thesis.
**Qualifications**
Required Degree(s) in:
• Chemistry
• Biochemistry
• Biotechnology
• Master’s degree
**Experience**
Other:
• Beneficial experience in: Synthetic chemistry
• Beneficial experience in: Site-directed mutagenesis and cloning; protein expression/purification
• Beneficial experience in: Enzyme engineering/evolution; analytical method development
• Beneficial experience in: Protein bioinformatics; computational (bio)chemistry
