**Job Description**
This PhD project focuses on developing a new generation of perceptual foundation models through advanced perceptual pre-training and fine-tuning algorithms. The goal is to expand their sensing abilities, improve generalization, and ensure efficiency and sustainability for specialist industrial use cases. The research is embedded in the Video & Image Sense Lab at the University of Amsterdam and involves active collaboration with partner TNO within the NWO Perspectief Foundation for Industry (FIND) project.

**Skills & Abilities**
• Strong background/knowledge in machine learning and computer vision.
• Natural language processing (plus).
• Solid mathematics foundations, especially statistics, calculus and linear algebra.
• Excellent programming skills, preferably in Python.
• Experience with AI/HPC supercomputing and running software on scale.
• Highly motivated, independent, and creative.
• Strong communication, presentation and writing skills and excellent command of English.
• Prior publications in relevant machine learning or computer vision conferences or journals (advantageous).

Annual Salary: € 36,708 - € 46,572 (gross, excluding 8% holiday allowance and 8.3% year-end allowance) Position Classification: UFO profile Promovendus Benefits: 8% holiday allowance, 8.3% year-end allowance, 232 holiday hours per year, extra holidays between Christmas and January 1, multiple courses (Teaching and Learning Centre, leadership, time management, stress management, online learning platform), complete educational program for PhD students, 7 weeks birth leave (partner leave) with 100% salary, partly paid parental leave, possibility to set up a workplace at home, pension at ABP (UvA pays two-thirds of contribution), possibility to follow Dutch language courses, help with housing for those moving from abroad.
