**Job Description**
This two-year postdoc position within the NWO algosoc Project at TU Delft focuses on the expansion and impact of computational infrastructures, particularly public clouds and end-devices, into public institutions, with a specific emphasis on the justice sector. The role involves taking a technically informed political economic approach to empirically research these developments, critically engaging with transformations in software production, and exploring equitable socio-technical-economic futures that uphold public values. The candidate will investigate how the delivery of Automated Decision-Making Systems (ADMs) as services influences this expansion and reconfigures public organizations and the administration of justice.
**Skills & Abilities**
• Ability to conduct interdisciplinary literature research
• Ability to conduct empirical studies combining qualitative methods and perspectives from political economy
• Enthusiasm for engagement with current computational infrastructures (cloud + end devices concentrated in the hands of a few companies)
• Understanding of technicalities, financials, or everyday practices underlying computational infrastructure production
• Critical perspective on technology production and institutional processes
• Experience working with technologists
• Clear research interest in the project topic and enthusiasm for joining the Programmable Infrastructures research group
• Excellent written and spoken command of English, as demonstrated by publications in English-language journals
• Ability to conduct autonomous work in a transdisciplinary team that includes legal scholars, communication scholars, economists, ethicists and computer scientists
• Experience with organising workshops, lecture series, and similar events
• Based in the Netherlands sufficient time to collaborate with algosoc researchers and partake in project activities regularly
