**Job Description**
The University of Gothenburg’s Department of Political Science, ranked among the top in Sweden and Europe, is inviting applications for one or more postdoctoral positions. These positions are integral to the ERC Starting Grant-funded “Fem-LEAD” project, led by Associate Professor Aksel Sundström. The project aims to understand the intricate connections between natural disasters (specifically climate shocks) and women’s political standing in politics, exploring how these events affect citizens’ demand for female politicians and the supply/presence of elected women. Research methods include public opinion data, observational surveys, in-depth interviews, and survey experiments, with opportunities to expand into related topics like additional geographic regions or broader political variables. The successful candidate will primarily conduct research, contributing to a vibrant academic environment and an ambitious, cutting-edge project focused on climate shocks and politics more generally.

**Skills & Abilities**
• Excellent skills in quantitative methods (using Stata or R).
• Ability to work constructively and effectively as part of an international research team.
• Ambition and ability to produce high-quality and high-impact research, both independently and in a team.
• Excellent command of spoken and written English.
• Eye for detail, good organizational skills, and problem-solving abilities.
• Very high communication and collaboration skills.
• Skills in designing survey experiments (asset).
• Experience with working with geospatial data (asset).
• Experience with comparative survey data (asset).
• Experience of working with data related to climate or disasters (merit).
• Strong interest in developing creative research designs (preferred).
• Ambition and willingness to acquire new methodological skills (preferred).

**Qualifications**
Required Degree(s) in:
• Political science
• Closely related subject (e.g., economics)

**Experience**
Experience Required:
• Doctoral degree completed in political science or a closely related subject at the latest at the time of the employment decision.
• Degree completed no more than three years before the end of the application period (special reasons for previous degrees).
• 4-10 years of research experience.
Other:
• Previous experience of research in connection with the described research area.
• Specialization in gender and politics, political representation, public opinion or African politics is an asset.
