**Job Description**
This Postdoctoral Research Assistant position is a 12-month fixed-term role focused on cavitation erosion and fatigue testing of newly developed aluminium alloys for Additive Manufacturing (AM) processes. The project, funded by the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC), aims to revolutionize product design and manufacturing by developing new bespoke AM aluminium alloys. The successful candidate will be responsible for performance testing of as-cast and AM test parts, including acoustic pressure measurements and in-situ high-speed imaging, complemented by microstructural characterisation. This role involves collaboration with other institutions and companies to deliver a new class of high-quality AM materials.
**Skills & Abilities**
• Significant expertise and experience in using characterisation and testing facilities (e.g., microscopy, SEM, cavitation erosion and fatigue testing, micro/nano-indentation).
• Experience in handling and processing large data sets.
• Knowledge of data acquisition systems.
• Proficiency in signal and image processing.
• Experience in measuring acoustic pressures in cavitating liquids and high-speed filming.
• Excellent leadership skills.
• Good communication skills and proficiency in written and spoken English.
• Strong track record in disseminating research outputs.
• Ability to work as part of a team.

Required Degree(s) in:
• Materials science and engineering
• Physics
• Chemistry
• Related scientific or engineering discipline
