**Job Description**
This Postdoctoral Research Fellowship is part of the European Research Council-funded Consolidator project ECOART – An Ecological History of Eurasian Art. The project, comprising a team of researchers, investigates the artistic use and visual representation of geographical, geological, botanical, zoological, and climatic resources in Eurasia from 1500 to 1800, focusing on early modern globalization. The selected candidate will specifically investigate the impact of climatic and/or geographic resources on art during the early modern period, with a special focus on the Philippines. The methodology will be informed by geoaesthetics, a critical framework for analyzing artistic and artisanal practices shaped by human interaction with climatic and/or geographic formations. Potential case studies include representations of water and wind forces, anthropomorphic depictions of wind, the impact of the monsoon season on seafaring, and the influence of specific sites on landscape painting. Funding is available for fieldwork, archival research, conference attendance, and publications.
