**Job Description**
The post-holder will join the NERC-funded PHOENIX grant team, led by Associate Professor Thomas Aubry, at the University of Oxford. The project aims to enhance the understanding of volcanic plume dynamics through a combination of laboratory experiments, fieldwork, and numerical modelling. The primary responsibility involves setting up a new experimental system, conducting and analysing laboratory experiments, and using the findings to advance one-dimensional (1D) models of volcanic plumes. This work will complement 3D plume modelling and team fieldwork, pushing the boundaries of analogy between real-world plumes and small-scale experiments, including atmospheric stratification, sheared wind, and multiphase plume dynamics. The role involves close collaboration, training, participation in field campaigns, leading and contributing to publications, and presenting at conferences, with strong support for long-term career development.

**Skills & Abilities**
• Sufficient specialist knowledge in either volcanic plume dynamics and/or fluid dynamics.
• Ability to work independently.
• Excellent communication skills.
• Track record of contributing to publications and presentations.
• Ability to contribute ideas for new research projects.
• (Desirable) Experience in experimental geophysical fluid dynamics.
• (Desirable) Proficiency in scientific programming.
• (Desirable) Independently managing a discrete area of a research project.
