**Job Description**
The GFZ German Research Centre for Geosciences is seeking a Postdoctoral Researcher within Department 5 “Geoinformation” and the developing Section 5.4 Data Science. This role focuses on advancing the understanding of dynamic Earth processes by developing data-driven methods for the analysis of complex systems, particularly for identifying regime trends and tipping points. Responsibilities include deducing hypotheses on system evolution, building and validating computational models, and applying these methods to geoscience problems, specifically in bio-/geochemical cycles.
**Skills & Abilities**
• Solid experience in programming (R, Matlab, Python, etc.)
• Competence in working in inter-disciplinary teams
• Fluent in English
**Qualifications**
Required Degree(s) in:
• Mathematics
• Statistics
• Data Science
**Experience**
Experience Required:
• Research expertise in the analysis of complex systems
• Familiarity with network analysis, concepts of resilience (e.g., adaptive cycle) and system transitions (e.g., self-organised criticality, critical transitions, catastrophe theory)
• Experience in modelling, simulation and analysis of models using various small-scale modelling approaches (e.g., ODE/PDE-Modelling, Agent Based Modelling)
• Experience in mathematical analysis of data-driven methods
