**Job Description**
The University of Antwerp is seeking a full-time postdoctoral researcher to engage in a two-year strategic basic research project focused on cost-effective functional safety within sustainable process industries. The successful candidate will work with academic and industrial partners, building on existing literature to address gaps in the cost-effectiveness analysis of safety instrumented systems. Responsibilities include designing cost models to analyze trade-offs, evaluating the impact of system design complexity on lifecycle costs, collaborating with field experts to validate research, assisting in ongoing research projects, coordinating new project proposals for safe and sustainable processes, and contributing to external funding acquisition. The role also involves assisting in the supervision of PhD students and other team members, and publishing scientific articles related to the research project.
**Skills & Abilities**
• Fluent in English (speaking and writing).
• Experience with industrial chemical processes and process safety (considered a plus).
• Interest in production processes and the manufacturing sector (considered a plus).
• Interest in sustainable development and the transition to a more sustainable society.
• Interest in cleantech and environmental technology.
• Experience with funding acquisition and project coordination (considered a plus).
• Experience with cost engineering methods, cost-benefit analysis and cost-effectiveness analysis (considered a plus).
**Qualifications**
Required Degree(s) in:
• (Applied) Engineering Sciences (Chemical Engineering, Process Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Safety Engineering)
• Applied Economics

• Hold a PhD or will have obtained it by the time of starting.
