**Job Description**
The Center for Smart Engineering Materials (CSEM) at New York University Abu Dhabi invites applications for a Research Assistant position to support ongoing research in the design, development, and characterization of innovative and multifunctional construction materials, including self-sensing and self-healing systems, with applications in infrastructure, oil and gas, and energy-efficient construction. The successful candidate will work closely with a multidisciplinary team.
**Skills & Abilities**
• Prior experience in materials synthesis, especially from industrial byproducts or brine sources, and in construction material characterization
• Familiarity with life-cycle assessment (LCA) tools and methodologies
• Exposure to smart materials, self-healing technologies, or sensor-integrated cementitious systems is a strong plus
• Strong laboratory skills
• Data analysis capabilities
• Collaborative mindset
• Experience with AC impedance spectroscopy, electrical resistivity measurements, or chemical durability testing (Preferred)
• Basic programming skills (e.g., MATLAB, Python) for data handling and sensor signal analysis (Preferred)
• Enthusiasm for interdisciplinary research and the ability to support multiple concurrent projects (Preferred)

Required Degree(s) in:
• Civil Engineering
• Materials Science
• Chemistry
• Closely related field
