**Job Description**
This position is for a Research Assistant in a lab studying translational issues in transfusion medicine, including the immune response to transfused blood cells, autoimmunity, alloimmunity, tolerance, and aging. The role involves participation in day-to-day laboratory research projects, conducting both animal and human studies. The successful candidate will manage human research studies from volunteer recruitment to lab tests, and manage mouse colonies including husbandry, genotyping, and phenotyping. This role requires strong organizational skills, precision, and the ability to multi-task.

• Basic lab skills (e.g., pipetting, loading a gel)
• DNA extraction and PCR
• Flow cytometry
• Sterile technique
• Basic knowledge of genetics (e.g., Mendelian inheritance patterns)
• Technical ability to complete procedures and properly record and report results
• Highly motivated and organized
• Ability to take initiative and complete projects
**Qualifications**
Required Degree(s) in:
• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in a related field
• Bachelor’s degree in biology (Cell and/or Molecular Biology preferred) or a related field
**Experience**
Experience Required:
• At least 1.5 years of related experience (BSc)
• At least 1 year of laboratory experience (BSc)
Other:
• Phlebotomy certification preferred
• Experience in animal colony management and animal husbandry strongly encouraged
• Experience with flow cytometry, PCR, Western blotting, and/or recombinant DNA is an advantage
• Phlebotomy experience preferred
