**Job Description**
The College of Veterinary Medicine is seeking a Research Assistant I-IV to support researchers in the planning, maintenance, documentation, and execution of research focused on the management, control, behavior, and ecology of arthropod vectors (primarily ticks and mosquitoes) and vector-borne pathogens. Responsibilities also include laboratory and inventory maintenance, supply ordering, and active participation in laboratory meetings.

**Skills & Abilities**
• General knowledge in the field of research.
• Working knowledge of equipment, materials, and processes related to lab/facility operations.
• Proficiency in procedures for observation, documentation, and data collection.
• Strong knowledge of moderately complex equipment, materials, and processes (Level II).
• Expert knowledge of complex equipment, materials, and processes (Level III).
• Expert knowledge of highly complex equipment, materials, processes, documentation, collection, and interpretation (Level IV).
• Experience working with arthropod vectors and vector-borne pathogens (preferred).
• Experience working in BSL-2 laboratories (preferred).
• Arthropod colony maintenance (preferred).
• Cell culture (preferred).
• Experience with diverse animal models (preferred).
• Basic microbiology methods (culture, quantification) (preferred).
• Basic molecular biology methods (nucleic acid extraction, PCR, DNA sequencing) (preferred).
• Basic serologic methods (ELISA) (preferred).
• Experience with experimental design (preferred).
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills (preferred).

**Qualifications**
Required Degree(s) in:
• Relevant field
• Biology
• Microbiology
• Parasitology

**Experience**
Experience Required:
• No experience (BSc for Level I)
• 2 years (BSc for Level II)
• 4 years (BSc for Level III)
• 6 years (BSc for Level IV)
Other:
• A Master’s degree or higher may be accepted in place of experience.
• Preferred experience working with arthropod vectors and vector-borne pathogens.
• Preferred experience working in BSL-2 laboratories.
