The Research Associate/Fellow in Planetary Robots will contribute to the development and deployment of advanced autonomous systems for lunar rover operations, integrating navigation, environmental sensing, and mission-critical decision-making technologies. These positions focus on cutting-edge research in autonomous navigation and mission operations systems for the Roo-ver lunar mission, bridging academia and industry within Australia’s Moon to Mars Initiative.

• Strong collaborative and communication skills
• Demonstrated ability to translate research into practical, deployable solutions
• Proven track record in robotics, autonomous navigation, optimisation, mission operations, or space systems research
• Experience with autonomous systems, algorithm development, or mission-critical optimisation software in challenging environments
• Expertise in path planning algorithms and autonomous navigation
• Expertise in stochastic optimisation and decision-making under uncertainty
• Expertise in mission operations software and systems engineering
• Expertise in space systems and mission-critical software development
**Qualifications**
Required Degree(s) in:
• Mechatronics
• Computer Science
• Related field with a focus on algorithmic software design, development and deployment
**Experience**
Experience Required:
• 1-2 years (Postdoc) for early Level B appointments
Other:
• Proven track record in robotics, autonomous navigation, optimisation, mission operations, or space systems research
• Experience with autonomous systems, algorithm development, or mission-critical optimisation software in challenging environments
• Field / practical experience (for Level B appointments)
• Unrestricted work rights in Australia for the duration of employment
