**Job Description**
This role focuses on delivering an academic research project, “HarbourCraftSafe: Fire Resilient Battery Room Design for Next-Gen Electric Harbour,” funded by MPA and in collaboration with local industry partners. The primary responsibilities include developing a CFD modelling platform to evaluate combustion, flammable, and toxic gas emission and dispersion characteristics from battery fires/thermal runaway in battery rooms. The role also involves experimentally characterizing heat release rates and gas emissions of various eHC batteries through reduced-scale testing, and evaluating gas monitoring sensor performance for remote monitoring and early detection, along with potential fire suppression strategies.

**Skills & Abilities**
• Strong foundation in Fluid Dynamics
• Strong skills in turbulence modelling, CFD mesh generation in complex 3D geometries
• Proficient in handling large data sets and the ability to analyze and interpret results
• Proficient in Ansys Fluent or FDS Simulation
• Able to work independently
• Strong data analytical skills
• Communication and interpersonal skills
• Able to build and maintain strong working relationships with people within and external to the university

**Qualifications**
Required Degree(s) in:
• Mechanical Engineering
• Marine and Offshore Engineering
• Related fields

**Experience**
Other:
• Strong knowledge and experience in battery fire simulation.
• Hands-on experience on experimental studies.
• Familiarity with CFD applications working on industrial related projects using high performance computing clusters.
• Strong prior experience in CFD, particularly in battery fire combustion and spread.
• Experience in commercial CFD packages such as ANSYS package and FDS.
• Sufficient experience in using ANSYS FLUENT, FDS, Meshing tool, and post-processing software.
