**Job Description**
A Postdoctoral Research Fellow position is available within the Fungal Immunology Group at the University of Birmingham, led by Dr. Rebecca Drummond. The successful candidate will join a project team aiming to enhance the understanding of in-host behavior of fungal pathogens, utilizing in vivo models of fungal infection and established immunology techniques. The role involves investigating fungal adaptation and antifungal immunity in organ-specific environments, with opportunities for collaborative work with the University of Cape Town and additional training.

• Good understanding of immunology and medical microbiology
• Excellent communication skills
• Proficiency with in vivo immunology
• Proficiency with flow cytometry
• Proficiency with basic tissue culture
• Proficiency with molecular biology techniques
• Prior experience with microscopy (particularly confocal) (advantageous)
• Prior experience with human cell culture (advantageous)
• Demonstrated prior research success (e.g., publications/pre-prints, presentations, academic prizes/travel awards)
• High level analytical capability
• Ability to communicate complex information clearly
• Ability to contribute to developing new protocols and techniques
• Ability to assess resource requirements and use resources effectively
• Understanding of and ability to contribute to broader management/administration processes
• Ability to contribute to the planning and organising of the research programme and/or specific research project
• Ability to co-ordinate own work with others to avoid conflict or duplication of effort
• Knowledge of the protected characteristics of the Equality Act 2010
**Qualifications**
Required Degree(s) in:
• Immunology
• Microbiology
Experience Required:
• First author publications in peer-reviewed journals
• Previous experience and strong interest in medical mycology, immunology and/or infectious disease immunology
• Holder of Home Office Personal Licence (or equivalent in home country)
• Substantial experience of using in vivo mouse models to assess immune responses
• Substantial experience in using flow cytometry to analyse in vivo immune responses
